Claimants can now gain access to their own claim file via the internet. Your claim file will contain medical records/reports, including Independent Medical Exams (IME), vocational reports that have been provided to the Department, billing payment information, a log of phone contacts with the claims manager, and other information pertaining specifically to your claim.
This system is available ONLY for claimants with state fund L&I claims whose claims are administered by the State of Washington and NOT self-insured claims. For self-insured claims, see the section entitled "For Claims Administered by a Third-Party" below.
First, you must have access to a computer and have an established email address. (If you do not have access to your own personal computer, you can establish an email account using any computer (i.e., your public library or the computer of a friend) and choosing a free e-mail provider (such as www.hotmail.com).
Once your email account has been established: Using the computer's internet browser (generally Internet Explorer), type in http://secureaccess.wa.gov in the browser's address field and hit enter (or click "go".) This should take you to the SecureAccess Washington Department of Labor & Industries website.
Locate "First Time Users" and click the link that says "Register for Secure Access Washington."
Complete the registration form as directed. You will need to know your complete email address (i.e., johndoe@hotmail.com) before you are able to register.
Once you've clicked "Register" you will be told to check your email for further instructions from L&I on how to access your claim account. In this email will be confirmation of your password and user ID. BE SURE TO PRINT A COPY OF THIS EMAIL FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.
Should you have trouble accessing your account, return to the SecureAccess website and follow the easy help instructions.
You can also grant access to your L&I records via the DLI website to another person such as your lawyer or a helper or translator.
For Claims Administered by a Third-Party (Self-Insured) Administrator:
Workers who have self-insured claims do not have the benefit of using this system.
Self-insured claimants may still access their claim files only by sending a written request to their third-party administrator for a hard copy of the claim file. You may also send a written request to the DLI self-insured section for the Department orders and correspondence. However, the DLI file will typically contain far less information than the self-insured's file.
To receive a microfiche copy of your third-party claim file from the Department of Labor & Industries, a written request can be faxed to Department of Labor & Industries at 360-902-6900 (be sure to include your full mailing address) or mail a request to:
The Department of Labor & Industries Self-Insured Section P.O. Box 44892 Olympia, WA 98504-4892. ENSURE YOUR CLAIM NUMBER APPEARS ON ALL REQUESTS.
