Claimants can now gain access to their own claim file via the internet. Your claim file in state fund claims will contain medical records/reports, including Independent Medical Exams (IME), vocational reports that have been provided to the Department, billing payment information, a log of phone contacts with the claims manager, and other information pertaining specifically to your claim.
This system is available for claimants with both state fund L&I claims whose claims are administered by the State of Washington and now self-insured claims. For self-insured claims, see the section entitled "For Claims Administered by a Third Party" below.
First, you must have access to a computer and have an established email address. (If you do not have access to your own personal computer, you can establish an email account using any computer (i.e., your public library or the computer of a friend) and choosing a free e-mail provider (such as www.hotmail.com).
Once your email account has been established: Using the computer's internet browser (for example, Internet Explorer), type in http://secureaccess.wa.gov in the browser's address field and hit enter (or click "go".) This should take you to the SecureAccess Washington Department of Labor & Industries website.
Locate "Do not have an account? Create one" and follow the directions.
Complete the registration form as directed. You will need to know your complete email address (i.e., johndoe@hotmail.com) before you are able to register, as well as your claim number.
Once you've clicked "Register" you will be told to check your email for further instructions from L&I on how to access your claim account. In this email will be confirmation of your password and user ID. BE SURE TO PRINT A COPY OF THIS EMAIL FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.
Should you have trouble accessing your account, return to the SecureAccess website and follow the easy help instructions.
You can also grant access to your L&I records via the DLI website to another person such as your lawyer or a helper or translator.
For Claims Administered by a Third Party or Self-Insured Administrator:
Workers who have self-insured claims may also use this system. However, most self-insured claim information is not put on the webiste. The full claim files are available only through the self-insured's claim manager or third-party administrator.
Self-insured claimants may access their claim files only by sending a written request to their third-party administrator or self-insured employer for a hard copy of the claim file. The self-insured's administrator is obligated to send the file within 15 days at no charge for the first copy.
To receive a microfiche copy of your self-insured claim file from the Department of Labor & Industries, a written request can be faxed to Department of Labor & Industries at 360-902-6900 (be sure to include your full mailing address) or mailed to:
The Department of Labor & Industries Self-Insured Section P.O. Box 44892 Olympia, WA 98504-4892. ENSURE YOUR CLAIM NUMBER APPEARS ON ALL REQUESTS.
